Alona in Ak-Suu

Alona Dmukhovska from the NGO Territory (Kiev, Ukraine) visited her twinned partner, Nurbek Zakeryaev from the youth association Bekem Yntymak (Ak-Suu, Kyrgyzstan) in early August. As a part of Territory, Alona serves a program director of RespublicaFEST, a Ukrainian music and street art festival, and coordinates youth programs in her home city. This team cooperating to train local volunteers who will be able to organize large cultural events.


During Alona’s time in Ak-Suu, Nurbek put together an exciting program. He introducing her to local NGO partners and community organizers. They also spent time with youth representatives and municipal officials to learn about youth development policy and discuss the challenges faced by youth in both Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine. Bekem Yntymak also organized a number of exciting cultural excursions for Alona so that she could cherish the beautiful nature of the region and dive into local traditions.


On one of the days, Alona gave a practical workshop for local volunteers about organizing cultural programs. Participants got hands-on-experience in preparing a prospective concert. They discussed the different roles involved in such a task and the value of working together as a cooperative unit. When Nurbek visits Alona in Kiev, he will have a chance to work with Ukrainian volunteers, share his experience and culture, as well as attend a workshop on project management in creative industries.


As a part of their project, they are providing the local Ak-Suu concert hall with new musical instruments and volunteers teachers that will give lessons to youth in the town. They will also organize a grand opening with a concert showcasing local talents.
